Porsche Opens Up About Its Web3 Plans
Porsche has just unveiled plans to release a 7,500-piece NFT collection based on the classic Porsche 911 in January 2023, with Hamburg designer and 3D artist Patrick Vogel set to create each piece in the collection.
People who buy a Porsche NFT will be able to help shape the design of their digital token by choosing a “route” for it, selecting from Performance, Lifestyle, or Heritage options. These routes reflect a particular characteristic of the company’s brand identity, and will modify the overall design of the NFT itself. In the months following the collection’s release, Vogel will work with user input to ready each NFT as a 3D asset in Unreal Engine 5.
Krämer also explained that future NFT utility will involve access to exclusive physical and virtual events and merchandise. Keskin emphasized that some of Porsche’s future Web3 plans are still in flux by design, the goal is very much to evolve the company’s NFT initiatives alongside the community of Porsche enthusiasts.
ApeCoin Up as Staking Nears & Bored Ape NFT Prices Rebound
ApeCoin (APE), the Ethereum-based token created for the growing Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem, is outperforming most major cryptocurrencies during the last week. It’s now up 31% over the past seven days, with the increase coming ahead of the launch of ApeCoin staking rewards.
The token is currently priced at $4.15, per data from CoinGecko, and has rebounded since hitting an all-time low price of $2.63 on November 14 amid the fallout from the collapse of crypto exchange FTX. ApeCoin is up nearly 58% since that low.
Both Bored Apes and Mutant Apes have also seen an approximate 34% rise in USD floor value over the last week, per NFT Price Floor. Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs are up to a current price of nearly $16,000 (13.2 ETH).
BMW goes further into NFTs
BMW, the prominent German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing company, has applied to trademark its logo for non-fungible tokens as well as virtual environments, according to trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis. Its applications cover downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio and video featuring vehicles as well as "downloadable computer programs" featuring vehicles, toy vehicles, vehicle parts and accessories. These items are supposed to be used in extended virtual reality environments.
Users could potentially simulate the operation of land vehicles with the help of their VR headsets or glasses. This is not the first time the prominent brand has entered the world of Web3. In February, BMW decided to preserve the noise of its engine roars as a series of NFTs that appeared in a "Museum of Sound" on the OpenSea marketplace.
